Green frog (Rana clamitans)
Description: 2-4 inches; plain brown or green, sometimes with dark spots or blotches; belly white with dark wavy lines or spots; two ridges present on back running from behind eye to approximately mid-body or slightly beyond.
Distribution: Statewide.
Breeding period: April to September.
Breeding sites: Swamps, oxbows, ponds, lakes, and small streams.
Voice: Single sharp note, often given in rapid sequence; has been described as like the twang of a loose banjo string.
Comments: Fowler's toads and bullfrog calling in background. Recorded near Clinton in Hinds County.
