Family Hylidae – Treefrogs
Squirrel Treefrog (Hyla squirella)
Description: 3/4-1 1/2 inches; green to brown, usually with a few, small dark flecks or spots; often with indistinct light stripes along sides; rear of thighs unmarked.
Distribution: Southern half of state; relatively common.
Breeding period: April to August, usually following rains.
Breeding sites: Roadside ditches, rainpools, semi-permanent ponds.
Voice: Continuously repeated "waack" with a pronounced nasal quality.
Comments: Gray and pinewoods treefrogs calling in background. Recorded near Airey in Harrison County.
